Are you ready to embrace the awkward stranger within you?

Awkward Strangers are a musical duo that should not be taken at all seriously. Andrew (ukulele and vocals) and Anke (clarinet, flute, toy piano, melodica, kazoo, recorder, improvised percussion, harmonica, button accordion, saw, cigar-box slide guitar and vocals AND poetry) were individually awkward and strange for years before they started playing together in 2015.

They have performed internationally at the West Kola Music Festival in Solomon Islands, have appeared sporadically at the Citizens Circus in Fitzroy and Sloth Arts in Footscray, and have attended regularly at the Club MUK open-mic ukulele nights at Bar 303. They performed at the Melbourne Ukulele Festival in 2019 and 2020.

They’re awkward and they’re strange.
They’re awkward and they’re strange.
One is peculiar, the other’s deranged.
They’re not exactly punks,
Conservatory flunks.
They’re awkward.
They’re awkward and they’re strange,
Strange, strange, strange
